Repoussé Copper Cuff with Fold-Formed Edge
Repoussé Chasing Fold forming Annealing Oxidizing
The expert breakdown
The raised botanical motif here is repoussé worked from the back with steel punches into a pitch bowl, then chased from the front to sharpen the lines once the copper was annealed a second time — copper work-hardens fast, so expect two to three anneal cycles on a piece this size. The scalloped edge is fold-forming: the sheet is folded, hammered on the fold to spread and texture it, then annealed and unfolded to reveal the wave pattern. Patina is liver of sulfur followed by selective sanding on the raised repoussé to let the high points shine gold-copper against a darkened background — that contrast is what sells this piece visually.
